Tuesday, May 12...we played the games that various students made for their book reports.

Monday, May 11...students presented their book reports.

Monday, May 4...Book Reports are due a week from today. Here are a copy of the instructions.Today,I gave the students the entire period to read their books, go to library, or begin working on their book report.

Tuesday, April 28... we are working in the Junior Scholastics this week.  Thursday, we will go to the library to check out a book for a book report.

Tuesday, April 14...pg 402-409 do the 12 questions; pg 602-609 do the 12 questions...in class we also did a time zone wksht

Wednesday, April 1... I was out of town today, but the students worked on comparing communism, dictatorships, and monarchies. Also there was some work to review the Germany section which we read in class yesterday. Also, yesterday, we started work on reading Time Zone Maps.

Monday, March 30...TCAP practice. No homework

Thursday, March 26... students did TCAP practice. Note: Tomorrow's essay is an in-class assignment. It is not homework. It would be a good idea for student's to review their notes from the past five days.

Wednesday, March 25...we finished the primary documents, discussed them, and talked about Friday's quiz/essay.

What's on the Quiz?

vocabulary - aristocrat, patrician, plebian, common good, civic virtue, republic/republican government, direct democracy and representative democracy---also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of a republic? and why is civic virtue important?

Essay: (You may use the documents and your notes!!) Discuss the types of democracy practiced by the ancient Greeks and Romans. Discuss the influence these civilizatins had on our government (hint: separation of powers, checks and balances, popular sovereignty, and the duties and responsibilities of citizens).

Tuesday, March 24...we continued analyzing primary documents.

Monday, March 23... we analyzed primary documents in class (TCAP preparation).

Fri, March 20... I took up the homework. Students began work on Primary Document Questions

Thursday, March 19... students had time to work on the Europe maps and questions or the terms and questions from yesterday's lesson.

Wednesday, March 18... we read and answered questions about "What is a republican government?" The 2 maps and 12 questions are due by the end of this week (see below).

Tuesday, March 17...assignments to be working on at home this week:

  • Europe Physical Map - use colors to show elevation and label the physical features
  • Answer the questions on p 274-283 with good sentences
  • Europe Political Map - color each country different colors and label the countries (we'll add some capitals later)

I'll check these assignments by the end of the week.

Monday, March 16... We began Europe today. The students have a physical map (show elevation using colors and a map key; also, label according to the list on the accompanying worksheet). Maps should be completed by Wednesday.
